Afternoon light pours into the forest
Speckling the mossy floor
The alders stand tall, lush and full
Before the seasons parch them gold
A welcomed coolness in the morning air
Fruit trees bear their bountiful gifts
We soak in these golden hours
Before the season fully shifts
A butterfly flits from stem to stem
Kissing each flower with it’s delicate wings
The sun shimmers like a gem
A bird lands on a branch and sings
And the neighbouring flock takes flight
While petals open in the light
Tall grass dances in the breeze
And children run free as they please
Sand the shade of butter scotch
Blue sky, rippled in white
Toes dipped in the ocean’s froth
Basking in the afternoon light
Sparkling waves, frosted in foam
Shallow pools, warm and alive
Savouring these precious days
Before Autumn decides to arrive
